Digital Sovereignty Coalition (DSC) Founder, Everett Kelsey coined the term "The Singularity of Control" to define the point of no return—a historic inflection where centralized artificial intelligence (AI) systems, driven by surveillance logic, techno-racism, biased datasets, and opaque governance, become so deeply embedded in the institutions of daily life that democratic intervention becomes nearly impossible.

It is not a singularity of superintelligent machines; it is a singularity of unaccountable power.

This moment is not theoretical. It is arriving now, as governments, corporations, and militarized entities fuse control over the key components of AI: compute, data, infrastructure, and legislation. The convergence of these forces risks permanently locking civil society out of the mechanisms of digital governance, eroding civil liberties, dismantling pluralism, and normalizing automated inequality.

Systems trained on historically biased or incomplete datasets are already making decisions about bail, creditworthiness, employment, immigration, education, and social services—without transparency, recourse, or accountability. As these systems scale and harden into AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), their embedded values risk becoming irreversible. This is The Singularity of Control.

Civic Machina is DSC’s systemic, nonviolent response to "The Singularity of Control" existential crisis. It is a pluralist, decentralized civic operating system designed to preserve and expand democratic agency in the digital age.

Where The Singularity of Control centralizes power through surveillance, Civic Machina disperses it through community governance, ethical design, and culturally fluent AI.

Civic Machina is "Benevolent AI" for public good. It is the infrastructure that empowers individuals, institutions, and communities to challenge techno-authoritarianism and to build a future grounded in civil rights, accountability, and cultural dignity.
